pre-requisites for our pygmy goat for sale

Before committing to your new furry friend, there are a few things that you will need to have.

  1. A PIC number (property identification code): Western Australia has a mandatory livestock ownership, identification and movement system (yes, even if they’re  just a pet). If you haven’t already got a PIC number, you can apply for one through the DPIRD website here.
  2. Fencing: adequate fencing is important as goats are notorious for being escape artists. I always recommend a minimum fence height of 1100mm and gaps no bigger than 150x150mm. Goats are good climbers, so ensure there are no climbable objects such as trees or rocks etc, within 1 meter of a fence.
  3. Housing: goats HATE rain so it’s important to provide them with an escape from it in the means of a shelter. A simple three sided, covered structure with a bed of straw will keep them out of the wind and rain and stay warm on cold nights.
  4. Companionship: goats are emotional creatures and need the companionship of another goat. No, a sheep, horse, cow or anything other than another goat will NOT satisfy their emotional needs.

Before any Pygmy goat leaves our property, they are; disbudded, fully vaccinated with two shots of glanvac 3, wormed with a chemical treatment, NLIS ear tagged, males desexed (unless purchasing as a Buck), NPGAA registered and transferred into your name and or stud name if applicable, and supplied with an NVD/waybill.

All of our kids here at Tewes Park Estate are dam raised unless it’s absolutely necessary for them to be bottle raised. We believe that it is in the kids best interest to receive all of the colostrum and nutrients from mums milk just as nature intended. We wean our kids off of mum at around 10-12 weeks, Kids are disbudded before 1 week of age with the aid of tri-solfen used as a topical anesthetic and wound antiseptic treatment immediately after the procedure to reduce stress and discomfort. Vaccinations are administered at 6 weeks and 12 weeks of age and worming also done at 12 weeks when they are ready to leave mum and go to there forever home.

Wethers start from $550 + GST, breeding stock start from $1500 + GST depending on percentage, type, gender and colour.
